House was a top adviser to President Donald Trump who served in the West Wing from 2013 until the inauguration in January.
His death comes as the president prepares to host a White House Christmas Party on Dec. 27.
House has been at the center of multiple investigations into the Russia probe and whether his close ties to the president and his aides influenced the way the White House was run.
House served as chief strategist to the White White House from January 2013 to January 2018, according to a biography he shared on LinkedIn.
He was the second senior White House adviser to Trump to be ousted in less than a month.
